CSU Lasam engages in AGRIDAM CAGAYAN VALLEY 2024

To enhance the disaster readiness and resiliency of Cagayan State University Lasam, selected students and faculty members participated in the AGRIDAM Cagayan Valley 2024 with the theme “Advocating Disaster Readiness and Resiliency in Region 02”, today, held at Sanchez Mira Municipal Gymnasium, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan.

Organized by the Department of Science and Technology Cagayan Valley, the program also aimed to promote the nationwide campaign Handa Pilipinas of which the target is to raise public awareness of Science, Technology, and Innovation and at the same time to establish effective strategies against disasters and calamities.

Plenary sessions were conducted that was spearheaded by Civil Defense Officer IV Chief Ronald Villa with his talk about the “Relevant Laws and Policies in DRRM”.

Villa reminded the importance of having an organized plan for every region in the disaster risk reduction of every municipality which should be inclined in the policies of DRRM.

Former President of CSU, Dr. Urdujah Alvarado also emphasized the role of financial resilience during calamities in her topic titled “Financial Resilience in Context of Disaster Preparedness”.

Selected students from the campus in the afternoon were also indulged in the AGRIDAM Exhibit wherein they were introduced with the innovative technology used in disaster risk reduction by the DOST.

Moreover, different Local Government Units from the different municipalities of the region also shared their best practices in Risk Governance and their experiences as Gawad Kalasag awardees to serve as a benchmark for better disaster risk reduction around the valley.
