“CSU Lasam on Celebrating ASEAN COMMEMORATION 2019”

On August 29, 2019, at exactly 7:00 am, visitors arrived at the Cagayan State University-Lasam Campus. The said university hosted and commemorated ASEAN Bond with an interesting theme, “ASEAN: Advancing Partnership for Sustainability”, which gives emphasis to Asian unity despite human racial diversity. The leadoff was a mass, followed by Flag Raising ceremony while singing the National Anthem conducted by Prof. Perla Bautista followed by the ASEAN hymn sung by the CSU Choir with the professors.

The program officially begun with CSC President Ricky Mar Quebral rendering his opening remarks. Followed by the intermission number performed by the Socio-cultural officers and an inspirational message by the CEO, Dr. Florante Victor M. Balatico, Ph.D. Next is the contested events in Quiz Bee, Poster making, Slogan, and Cook fest. Then, Prof. Dominador A. Agatep, the CSC Adviser, discussed about the Historical Background regarding the Founding of ASEAN. After which, a parade was performed by the students and staffs of the said university wearing different ASEAN Costumes. The different National dances of ASEAN countries from Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, and the Philippines, was performed by the selected students from different colleges, namely: CIT, CICS, and CTED.

The advantages of ASEAN are reducing trade barriers between member states and improving economic growth. It promotes the Regional Peace and Stability of its members. Increase the tourism of member states. It is important to celebrate ASEAN to accelerate the economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region through joint endeavors in the spirit of equality and partnership in order to strengthen the foundation for a prosperous and peaceful community of southeast ASEAN Nations.

The program ended by the awarding of winners and among all of the said contested events, the overall winner was the College of Teachers Education, it is indeed a successful one.

The celebration aims to improve student’s awareness of the advantages of having a partnership with the ASEAN nations.
